15/5s - Week of April 25 through May 2, 2016

This week we finalized the Treatment report,  worked on SME and one on one formative evaluations. I received a lot of good recommendation for improvement from our SME. Also conducted one on one evaluation at Terminix site. It is a great and humbling experience to understand our own product from the client and users' prospective. While we learned about a lot of room for improvement, we believe we developed a great learning module with is a short period of time. Most of the finding were cosmetic and Jennifer spent a lot of time to fix the issues. We documented all the observation with references and reasoning; and suggested a proposed solution for each of the observations. Improve is a journey, not a destination.

Google hangout are becoming extremely valuable in sharing ideas and building consensus; besides that document sharing feature is helping us a lot to complement our discussion in a more efficient and effective way. Asking questions and learning from the peers and Dr. Weaver is a unique and enlightening experience. I am learning a lot of different perspectives by watching the screen casts from my peers. These resources are continuously helping me to think hard and understand new dimensions of any task at hand. Finally, watching Dr. Weaver’s screen cast provides a clear guideline on how to deal with so many moving parts without getting overwhelmed. I would like to apply the techniques I am learning from Dr. Weaver and my teammates to utilize in my future teaching profession.

Learning project management process and learning how to work successfully in team set up are two of the essential skill sets for any profession. To master these skill set one needs both pedagogical backbone and practical experiences. I am seeing progress from both of these ends slowly but steadily! Finally, learning is a continuous journey, not the destination!

15/5s - Week of April 11 through April 18, 2016

This week we finalized the formative evaluation plan. We developed five data collection instruments (SME notes form, Observation notes form, Interview protocol, Attitude survey, and Learner performance measure) to collect a variety of data set. In general, data will be collected regarding the structure, content, attitude, and learners’ performance to identify the weakness, inefficiencies, and improvement opportunities for the instructional unit. We planned to perform three kinds of formative evaluations: SME evaluation, one on one evaluation, and small group evaluation. Due to time constrain, we agreed to skip field evaluation.
I did a screen cast on our group formative evaluation plan and posted it to Google community to share with other groups. Also watched the screen cast from other groups. It is fascinating to see how we all trying to achieve the same goal in so many different and diverse ways.

15/5s - Week of April 4 through April 11, 2016

Formative evaluation is the process of identifying deficiencies and improvement opportunities in the instructional materials, and addressing the identified issues and improvement opportunities to make the instructional materials more effective for the learners in accomplishing instructional goals.
A formative evaluation plan is devised to identify specific shortcomings and area of improvements for this instructional unit with the help of subject matter expert and target learners. Five data collection instruments (SME notes form, Observation notes form, Interview protocol, Attitude survey, and Learner performance measure) were developed to collect a variety of data set. In general, data will be collected regarding the structure, content, attitude, and learners’ performance to identify the weakness, inefficiencies, and improvement opportunities for the instructional unit. Finally, necessary corrective measures will be taken to revise the instructional unit by utilizing instructional theories and best practices.
Though initially I thought formative evaluation is just a concept document; now I can see a clear value of formative evaluation plan which is helping us to organize our thought to coordinate and conduct three different kinds of formative evaluations: SME evaluation, one on one evaluation, and small group evaluation.

15/5s - Week of March 29 through April 4, 2016

Treatment report is an important document to design the user interfaces to seek the approval from the client and to develop a set of standard for the entire development team to follow during the development phase to ensure consistent look and feel. This week we completed the treatment report along with visual diagrams and pictures for user interfaces and entire site. Jennifer did a great job in capturing screenshot of all the interfaces and other diagrams. I presented our final treatment report in a screen cast and shared with my peers. Watching screen casts from other groups is a unique experience to learn many other dimensions of the same task or deliverable; diversity and plurality of thinking is a great vehicle to keep our mind alive with fresh idea and thoughts.

This process helped me to understand the need of consistent look and feel in online instructions development, and also how to achieve it in a team development environment. Client's input in this process was very helpful as they have a firsthand experience of the learners liking and ability. Now I have a better understanding of linking instructional strategies to optimize learning outcomes. I plan to utilize Dick and Carey’s five learning components in any future instructional development as  part of core instructional strategy.

Though initially I thought treatment report is just a concept document; now I can see a clear value of doing all these steps in a logical pattern to bring uniformity in our team development setup to optimize learning outcomes. Google hangout are becoming extremely valuable in sharing ideas and building consensus; besides that document sharing feature is helping us a lot to complement our discussion in a more efficient and effective way.

Asking questions and learning from the peers and Dr. Weaver is a unique and enlightening experience. Laerning a lot of different prespectives by watching the screencasts from my peers. Finally, watching Dr. Weaver’s screencast provides a clear guideline on how to deal with so many moving parts without getting overwhelmed. I would like to apply the techniques I am learning from Dr. Weaver and my teammates to utilize in my future teaching profession.

15/5s - Week of March 21 through March 28, 2016

Instructional strategy plays a vital role in the successful delivery of instructions and learners achievement. This week we spent a lot of time in developing our instructional strategy. The instructional strategy provides the guidelines to develop and select instructional materials to attain the instructional goal. The instructional goal, the learners’ and context analysis, the performance objectives, and the assessment items are utilized as inputs to develop instructional strategy along with other learning theories. The instructional strategy first addressed the need for choosing a suitable approach for sequencing and clustering instructions. Keller’s (2010) ARCS model was used to plan and design instructional materials to motivate the learners. Dick and Carey’s five learning components were followed to guide learners’ intellectual processing through different mental states and activities to optimize learning. Assessment instruments developed in the previous step helped tailor instruction to the needs of learners. Follow-through activities are identified to facilitate transfer of skills from learning to performance environment.

Treatment report is also an important document to design the user interfaces to seek the approval from the client and to develop a set of standard for the entire development team to follow during the development phase to ensure consistent look and feel. This week we completed the treatment report partially without the detail of the user interfaces and visual diagrams and pictures.

This process helped me to understand the need of consistent look and feel, and how to achieve it in a group development environment.

Though initially I thought all these documents are unnecessary overhead and wastage of time and energy; now I can see a clear value of doing all these steps in a logical pattern to optimize learning outcomes. While it is possible to coordinate among the team members through Google hangout and other online tools; we found that a face to face interaction is much more educational and efficient in accomplish jointly developed task.

Asking questions and learning from the peers and Dr. Weaver is a unique and enlightening experience. Laerning a lot of different prespectives by watching the screencasts from my peers. These resources are continuously helping me to think hard and understand new dimentions of any task at hand.
